Mechanical and physical properties and cyclic swell-shrink behaviour of expansive clay improved by recycled glass

چکیده
The stabilisation of expansive clay subgrades using recycled glass (RG) was proposed, as a sustainable ground improvement technique. Previous studies mainly focused on RG powder with contents up to 10%, while the current study utilised sand-size particles and 40% content. Physical properties, compressibility, strength characteristics, long-term climatic effects volumetric behaviour stabilised were investigated. Volumetric responses analysed through constitutive model developed for environmentally clay. experimental results revealed that plasticity mixtures decreased by 30% content increased 40%. By larger particles, bearing capacity about 45% 130% addition 25% RG. However, adding 6% sufficient increase 100% 200%, respectively. swell-shrink suggested maximum swelling achieved in second cycle which classification converted from medium high also compared discussed corresponding data collected literature. outcomes this advance prediction understanding mechanical RG-stabilised

15 صفحه اولan investigation of swell-shrink behavior of an expansive soil
expansive soils show swelling and shrinkage behavior when subjected to cyclic wetting and drying. the variation in water content influence the volume change in this kind of soil. these volume changes can cause ground movement which may result in damage to the buildings and structures. to study the behavior, a number of successive wetting-drying cycles were conducted on a statically compacted ex...
متن کاملsome studies on the effect of fly ash and lime on physical and mechanical properties of expansive clay
fly ash is one of the most plentiful and versatile of the industrial by-products. at present, nearly 150 million tonnes of fly ash is being generated annually in india posing dual problem of environmental pollution and difficulty in disposal. this calls for establishing strategies to use the same effectively and efficiently. however, it is only in geotechnical engineering applications such as t...

in this research, old magazine (omg) recycled fiber and glass fiber (gf) were mixed at different levels of 10%, 20%, 30% and 40% (based on weight) with two levels of 50% and 60% polypropylene (pp) and then the produced composites evaluated compared to those from net polypropylene. on the basis of obtained results from normalization equations in different treatments done, two treatments has been...
متن کاملan assessment of physical and mechanical properties of dispersive clay soil treated by pozzolan and lime
dispersive soils are prevailent in many parts of the world, including in iran. construction of hydraulic structures on dispersive soils has created various serious problems. since it is neither economical nor justified to replace a dispersive soil with a non-dispersive one, there fore stabilization of a dispersive soil in one way or another is indispensable and unavoidable. throughout this rese...
